#04 / PYRITE Iron Cross Twin - Columbia
Locality: Gachala, Cundinamarca, Columbia
Size: 6 cm. diameter / 435 gm.
A rare and very fine "Iron Cross" twinned pyrite from the renowned find a few years ago. The twin is formed by the right angle intersection of two pentagonal dodecahedra. Iron cross twins are quite uncommon, and are rarely found in large complete crystals such as this. This has a thin surface veneer of Goethite, but is essentially solid Pyrite. This crystal is in top condition for the find, as most had some nicks and edge wear from being in the soil. The twinning on this is outstanding and the underlying Pyrite shows thru in several areas.
This is quite large for the find.
