#15 / PYRITE Iron Cross twin - Columbia
Locality: Gachala, Cundinamarca Dept., Columbia
Size: approx. 3.3 cm dia. - weighs 95 gm.
A rare and very fine "Iron Cross" twinned pyrite from the renowned find a few years ago. The twin is formed by the right angle intersection of two pentagonal dodecahedra. Iron cross twins are quite uncommon, and are rarely found in large complete crystals such as this. This has a thin surface veneer of Goethite, but is essentially solid Pyrite. Sharp and complete all around.
